Bulk Upload Shares
Use the Shares tab in the cap table bulk upload template to record all historical share transactions, issues, transfers, and buybacks.
Before you start
Download the bulk upload template.
Make a copy of the template: File → Make a Copy.
Have your share registry ready, you'll need transaction dates, share classes, quantities, and amounts.
Enter your share data
In the Shares tab, enter one row per transaction:
Shareholder name
Transaction type (issue, transfer, or buyback)
Share class
Number of shares
Transaction date and price
Transaction comments (optional): Add notes to individual transactions
Do not include shares from SAFE or convertible note conversions, or from option exercises, these are created automatically when you upload the relevant tabs. Share conversions and splits must be recorded manually in Cake.
Tips
If you're issuing shares to a stakeholder who already exists in Cake, their name must match exactly what is already in Cake to ensure it adds the new transaction to their existing profile. Any mismatch creates a duplicate record.
Transfers should include two rows one after the other, the transferor followed directly by the transferee. Indicate the shares being transferred in the first row with a negative share number, and a positive share number on the transferee. The total amount paid refers to the amount paid on the transfer between transferee and transferor, not any amount paid to the company.
Buy backs / Repurchases are uploaded with a positive share number in Column G, which should indicate the number of shares being repurchased on that date.
