Customize Your Contracts and Agreements

Cake's standard templates are fully editable. You can customize wording, add clauses, and configure variable tags for stock option grants, fundraising documents, and transfers.

Understanding variable (merge) tags

Each template uses variable tags that automatically populate with data from your Cake account, like a stakeholder's name, number of options, or vesting schedule. Tags follow this format: [[ variable_name ]]

  • Keep tags where you want individual stakeholder details to appear automatically in each offer

  • Replace a tag with static text if you want the same wording for all recipients

  • Insert a new tag by placing your cursor where you want it, then clicking the tag insert button in the editor toolbar

Edit a template

  1. Go to Documents → Templates.

  2. Find the template you want to edit and click on its name.

  3. Click Edit to open the contract editor.

  4. Make your changes, update wording, add clauses, or adjust variable tags.

  5. Click Save when done.

What you can and can't change
