Customize Your Contracts and Agreements
Cake's standard templates are fully editable. You can customize wording, add clauses, and configure variable tags for stock option grants, fundraising documents, and transfers.
Understanding variable (merge) tags
Variable tags automatically populate with data from your Cake account, like a stakeholder's name, number of options, or vesting schedule. In the editor you work with tags from the toolbar - you don't type them by hand.
Insert a tag: place your cursor where you want it, from the tag menu on the right hand side, use the Search tags... box to find the tag you need. Tags are grouped (Employee, Company, Signers, Offer, and Other) to make them easy to locate.
Keep a tag where you want each stakeholder's details to appear automatically in every offer.
Replace a tag with static text if you want the same wording for all recipients.
Edit a template
Go to Documents → Templates and click the template name.
The template opens in View mode. Switch to Edit using the View / Edit toggle.
Make your changes - update wording, add clauses, or adjust variable tags.
Click Save changes.
Edit an equity plan template (Grant Letters, Plan Rules, Resolutions)
Go to Plans → Options (or RSAs or RSUs) and click View pool.
Scroll to the Contracts section and click the template you want to edit.
Switch to Edit, make your changes, and click Save changes.
What you can and can't change
You can edit all visible text, clauses, and formatting.
Variable tags can be added, removed, or replaced with static text.
Uploaded Word documents keep their original formatting exactly - Cake does not reflow or restyle your document.
