How Cake calculates diluted equity ownership for option holders
When you issue stock options in Cake, each option holder's ownership percentage is calculated automatically on a fully diluted basis. This article explains how that calculation works and where to view ownership figures for option holders.
How fully diluted ownership is calculated
Fully diluted ownership = Number of granted options ÷ Total company securities
Total company securities includes:
All issued shares (across all share classes)
All granted options, vested and unvested, including stock options, RSUs, and share plans
All outstanding warrants
Ownership calculations assume all options will eventually vest and be exercised. Unvested options are included in the fully diluted count.
Where to view ownership percentages
Cumulative ownership:
Go to Cap Table → Overview. Locate the relevant stakeholder in the Owners table. The far right column indicates their total diluted ownership combined across all grants.
Per-offer ownership:
Go to Plans → Options and view the offer list. Hover over the number of options granted. Ownership displays separately for each individual offer, not as a cumulative total.
Control Visibility
Go to Engage → Stakeholder app.
Click Manage under Visibility settings.
Toggle ownership % visibility for employees and shareholders separately.
