How to Upload a Custom Option Grant Template
If your company has existing, legally-reviewed equity documents, you can upload them as custom templates in Cake. Your custom templates replace Cake's defaults for that plan, while still using Cake's variable tag system to auto-populate stakeholder details.
Custom templates are available on paid plans. US: Team or Pro. Rest of world: Growth or Pro.
Before you start
Your template should be in .docx (Word) format.
Mark or highlight the fields where you want stakeholder data (name, grant date, number of options, etc.) to auto-populate, so they are easy to find when you tag them.
You need Admin or Account Owner access.
Upload an Offer Letter template
Go to Plans → Options (or RSAs or RSUs) and click View pool on the relevant plan.
Scroll to the Contracts section.
Click Add contract template and select Offer letter.
Choose Upload my DOCX, then Select .docx to upload and pick your file.
Click Apply.
Click Review contract → Edit to insert the relevant variable tags from the editor toolbar.
Variable tags: Put your cursor where you want to insert the variable tag, then select it from the list of tags on the right hand side of the editor. This will populate with the individual grant details at the time of sending to the recipient based on the grant drafted in the plan.
Click Save changes and Approve to finalise.
Your uploaded template is now available for all new grants issued from this plan.
Note: If you need help working through the variable tags, contact support via the ? icon in the top-right corner.
Upload a Plan Rules template
Go to Plans → Options (or RSAs or RSUs) and click View pool on the relevant plan.
Scroll to the Contracts section.
Click Add contract template and select Plan rules.
Choose Upload my own PDF, then Select .pdf to upload and pick your file.
Your uploaded template is now available for all new grants issued from this plan.
Upload an Exercise Notice template
Go to Plans → Exercise Requests → Exercise settings.
In the sidebar, click Edit next to the Exercise notice. The contract editor opens in a new tab.
Clear the existing content and paste in your own.
Insert the relevant variable tags for auto-population.
The contract saves automatically - close the tab when done.
Your template will be used for all exercise requests through Cake.
What happens next
Your custom template is used automatically for new documents of that type. The variable tags fill in each recipient's details from the data already in your plan and offers, so every document is personalised without re-typing.
