Pause Vesting for Option Holders

Pausing vesting stops the automatic vesting schedule from advancing. Use this when your Plan Rules require vesting to pause, for example, during extended unpaid leave. Pausing does not cancel options; it resumes from where it left off when you lift the pause.

When to pause vesting

Check your Plan Rules (equity incentive plan document) before pausing, they define the circumstances where pausing is appropriate (e.g. unpaid leave exceeding a set period).

Pause vesting on a grant

  1. Go to Plans → Options and click View pool for the relevant plan.

  2. Find the grant and click Actions.

  3. Select Pause vesting.

  4. Enter the pause from date: the date vesting stops.

  5. Optionally enter a resume at date if you know when the employee is returning.

  6. Click Save.

Vesting stops from the pause date. If you entered a resume date, vesting restarts automatically on that date. If no resume date is set, you will need to resume vesting manually.

Resume vesting

  1. Find the paused grant and click Actions.

  2. Select Edit pause.

  3. Enter the resume at date and click Save.
