Understanding Pro Rata Billing

When you upgrade your plan mid-cycle, you only pay the difference between your old and new plan, adjusted for the time remaining in your billing period.

How it works

When you upgrade, Cake automatically:

  1. Calculates what you've already paid for your current plan in the current period

  2. Deducts that amount from your new plan's cost

  3. Charges you only the remaining difference, adjusted for time left in the cycle

Example

If you're halfway through a quarter on the Build plan and upgrade to the annual Team plan, you'll be credited for the unused portion of your current quarter, and that credit is applied toward your Team plan charge. You'll pay the annual Team price minus that credit, and your new annual billing cycle starts from the upgrade date.

Annual plans

If you're on an annual plan and upgrade mid-year, the same logic applies: you're credited for the unused portion of your current plan and charged the difference for the new plan.
