Understanding User Permissions in Cake
Cake has four permission levels. Setting the right level for each person keeps your data secure while giving your team the access they need.
Permission levels
View Only
Best for stakeholders who need visibility but shouldn't make changes.
View all share registry details
Access reports and documents
Cannot make any changes
Edit
Best for team members who manage day-to-day equity operations.
Everything in View Only
Make changes to the share registry
Upload and manage documents
Cannot manage user access or billing
Admin
Best for team members who need full operational control.
Everything in Edit
Invite and manage company users
Access all settings
Cannot manage billing
Account Owner
The highest level of access, typically the founder or finance lead.
Everything in Admin
Manage billing and subscriptions
Can transfer account ownership
