Not a fan of standard vesting schedules? or simply want to shake things up? πŸ•ΊπŸ» Not a problem! To create a custom vesting schedule in Cake follow the steps below -

  1. Navigate to Incentive plans and then click into the relevant plan - ie. Options / Stock options, Share plan, RSA or RSU.

  2. Go into your plan by clicking View pool or View plan and click + Add new or existing grant.

  3. Complete the first two sections: 'Create grants for' and 'Equity for each Optionholder'.

  4. Then you're ready to create your custom vesting schedule. The vesting will default to the 'Industry standard' vesting schedule (ie. 12 month cliff, quarterly vesting for 3 years thereafter). To customise this, select Custom as outlined below.

  5. Type in the Vest start date (this is the date the cliff or the first periodic vesting event will start from). For example, if the offer has a 12 month cliff and you intend for the cliff date to fall on 01 Oct 2025, then the Vest start date should be entered into Cake as 01 Oct 2024.

  6. Add the vesting schedule you require for the offer by clicking on the buttons shown in the image below. You can only add one cliff but as many 'time based vesting' and 'milestone' events as you wish! If you use a cliff, this will always be used as the first vesting event and any periodic vesting will follow.

  7. If this is a custom vesting schedule you know you will use again on future offers, you can save it as a vesting template within your account by clicking the save icon. Create a name for the template that you will recognize moving forward. To use the template on a future offer, just click Use template.

  8. When you've allocated the total number of options, complete the remaining fields and then select Save draft to save and send later, or Send grant if you're ready to send the offer out for signing right away.
