Require Witness Signatures on Contracts
You can require witness signatures for both ESOP and raise offers. This must be enabled after creating the offer but before sending it for signing.
For ESOP Offers:
Click on the draft offer from your offer list
Click More in the top right corner
Select Require witness from the dropdown
You can also make this a default for all option grants sent for signing through Cake by updating this in the option pool settings.
For Raise Offers:
Click More on the offer from your offer list
Select Require witness from the dropdown
You'll see a confirmation message: "Witness signature requirement changed for this offer. It is now required." To verify, click More again - it will now show Unrequire witness.
How It Works:
You won't see a witness execution block in the document preview
When the recipient opens the offer, they'll first add their witness details (name and email)
The contract automatically updates with the witness execution block
The witness receives a signature request via email from Cake after the main signatory signs
Important: Only individual signers can have a witness sign. If the recipient is a corporate entity or joint stakeholder, no witness can be added (though usually a witness isn't required in those instances).
Need Legal Advice? Cake's standard templates don't require witnesses, but if you're using custom documents and unsure about witness requirements, consult with a lawyer.
