How to Vest Manually

Cake vests options automatically based on each grant's vesting schedule. For situations where you need to vest a milestone-based event, or override the automatic time-based vesting schedule, you can add a manual vest event.

Note: For grants with time-based vesting only, manual vesting adds a one-off vesting event to the grant record. The platform will no longer be able to follow the original time-based vesting schedule applied and the grant will be in a Paused state. Reach out to Customer Success if you need assistance.

Add a manual vesting event

  1. Go to Plans → Options.

  2. Click View pool on the relevant option plan.

  3. Find the grant holder in the offer list and click Actions on the right-hand side.

  4. Select Vest options from the dropdown.

  5. Choose Vest type: Periodic vesting or Milestone vesting (choose the latter if you are marking a milestone as achieved or met).

  6. Enter:

  • Vest date: the date the vesting occurred

  • Number of options: how many options are vesting in this event

  1. Click Vest.

The vested options are added to the grant record immediately.

What Happens Next

The manually vested options appear as a vesting event in the grant's transaction history. The employee will see the updated vested count in their My Cake portal.

Tip: If you're accelerating vesting as part of an employee departure, use the off-boarding flow instead, it handles vesting, lapsing, and the departure record in one guided workflow.
